WIP Orks and Hobby Cribs...

In my two months absence I managed to knock out the grand total of one Grot.

Shifty little bugger

I had planned on finishing of this lot back in September, but various things got in the way and I only managed to snatch 30 minutes here, and an hour there to actually work on them.
My WIP Ork Boyz and Grotz - 3 more of the Grotz are just waiting on the final applicatio of skin highlights

I actually only finished this guy up tonight after resolving to sit at my desk and get someting done.

The grand total of nearly 3 months effort - need to lift my game

I'm still enjoying painting these guys and hope to get stucj into another couple tomorrow night.  I took note of Ron's layering article and tried thinning my paint sufficiently to build up layers in a positive way reather than my usual method of sharp, noticeable jumps in hue.  It worked to a point but I think I will stick with my usual way as I like the streaky effect I end up with in the musculature.

So finally I leave you with a shot of my workspace as it stands tonight.

My jammed paint station - now with proper light!

I picked up a couple of adjustable arm lamps from Ikea and put in some daylight bulbs so now I have proper light to paint by - much better than squinting with the old yellow tint bulbs I had in my last lamp.

My little brother is a carpenter by trade and is knocking me together a rack to stand at the back to store my paints, powders and other odds and sods which will then give me more free space so I am not painting on the cramped front setion only.

Aside from my Orks I have a couple of WIP terrain pieces which must have sat there for over a year as well as some Dreadnaught weapon arms I was messing about with and some Marine pieces which I need to base coat with the air brush.

And thats it for tonight - hopefully another post will go up in a couple of days to show the next couple of finished models.

Happy hobby all,

Pom

  2. Cheers Smurf - felt good to get something back onto the blog. I've not been gone really - just lurking. I am doing a lot of my blog reading on my android phone on the bus home from work as it was a dead hour that I generally dozed in. The problem with this approach is that I can't comment as my profile defaults to the google profile on the phone rather than my blogging one and I want to keep continuity in my commenting profiles so people know who it is that is actually commenting.

  4. Thanks for stopping by Geek.

Little by little mate - thats the way I am approaching my hoard of unpainted. I find the hobby still offers a perfect getaway from real life and other distractions - however much they eat into what time I might wish to devote to hobby.

I was excited to see your post on your Empire army which you dredged from the closet.

I pulled together an Empire army last year but never got beyond a few test minis for colour schemes and certainly not a game so can't offer you much in the way of advice - although I did note Dave Taylors comment on that post - heed his advice would be my advice - what that man doesn't know about wargaming isn't worth knowing.

My build approach went - what looks cool - which meant detachments a plenty as I really dig that aspect of the force - plus lots of guns and bows as my Warriors of Chaos are completely lacking in that aspect of the game so the Empire is basically completely opposite play wise army should I ever decide to field it.
