Warhound Titan armour...

Sitting around watching the dog chase rabbits in his sleep is funny and all, but I figured there were better ways to spend my time so with my cup of tea ready I've settled down to write this blog post.

I've been working on the loose pieces of Warhound Titan armour in between episodes of Doctor Who. The missus, who is as far from a sci-fi lover you can get, actually started watching the new season and harangued me into getting the earlier seasons - we've been watching them together all week which is massively odd but I'll take whatever 'quality' time she wants to spend with us whenever I can hey.

Apologies for the crummy pics - needed to use the flash as it's night and I have crappy indoor lighting - its washed out a bit of the blue - its a couple of shades darker than shown here.

Its only the four panels shown that I have been working on - the main body armour remains untouched for now. I finally settled on a couple of metallic mixes I like so barring a final wash around the rivets, and a light wash over the Eagles, that's pretty much done. I was considering taking the Eagles on all the armour plates up to a pure gold but think that would clash too much with the rest of the metallics.

The blue is at the first base coat - Necron Abyss foundation which is the darkest I could get in the GW range without mixing with black. I am planning a 50/50 Necron/Regal Blue mid layer and then a light Regal final highlight/layer. The helm armour already has that bit done as well as the first layers of the yellow.

I'm in two minds over the yellow. I've been thinking of carrying that over to the shoulder armour but Adz has pointed out that it might make it look a bit 'Harlequin' which I don't want. Maybe some banding or something on the larger plates - too much blue might be a bit much as well - not a lot of experience with the bigger kits so any comments/suggestions are welcome.

I've also been working on the metallics for pistons and such on the legs. Boltgun base and washed with Badab/Chaos black so far. Looks half decent as is and I'm tempted to leave it be in case re-highlighting makes it look rubbish which I am wont to do when I try to be too clever. I might crack on with the integral armour panels on the leg and see how they look as a whole before revisiting that bit.

And that's that for this weekend. Looks like the little dog caught his rabbit - he's watching me through the window with the sad puppy eyes he gives me when he wants to be played with - guess I better go find his ball then.

Cheers all,

Pom

  1. she's starting to look very smart now in blue. I'm a bit jealous!

I agree with the yellow statement, perhaps just sticking with the blue is a good idea. You can always add in extra colour detail by way of an honors banner

  2. I think the blue looks nice and smooth. It would work just on its own, so I'm excited to see another layer or two. There are a variety of paint scheme pics in Imperial Armour Volume Six. Though the heads are always portrayed as yellow, some have yellow chevrons on a leg or legs or the back carapace and some have blue and white or black and white stripes on a leg or legs and all or part of the carapace. And, of course, the flames on the legs and carapace appear on some. I might be able to let you have a look at the page if you don't have that book handy. Point is, no matter what you do with the paint, it's hard not to fit into some sort of Legion scheme.

  3. Thanks guys.

@ Smurf - a banner is something I want to do - or rather I want Ron at FTW to do - I liked what he did for the Inner Geeks Reaver banner so was going to see if he would take the commission once I had the model a bit further along.

    @ Drax - thanks mate.

@ Geek - Cheers - the blue does look great straight of the bat - took a couple of nice thin layers to build up so it already got partial shading from the Chaos Black base coat - I'm not going to go over board with the next layers- just try and achieve a bit of depth. I do still want to keep the yellow in there somewhere - I think as the model gets further along it won't stand out so much but actually focus the attention down thw centre line (or so I hope). I don't have IA6 so if its possible to pass us a cheeky peak at some schemes I would be ever grateful.
