To coincide with the 90th anniversary of the RAAF our American cousins brought over a couple of B1-B's (both if which were broken on the day of attendance with hydraulic issues so know fly by), some F-22 Raptors (with so much security around them you could only get to within 10 meters) and some other cool bits and pieces including an F-16 demonstration team.
Got to see loads of cool kit and watch some awesome aerial displays which was fantastic. Watching the Super Hornets and Falcons fly around its hard to see them as machines - they move like leaves in the wind - crazy. And the sound was phenomenal.
I've been cracking on at some Reaper minis that came while I was away. When painting these I am sticking to my 4 colour with wash and highlight method which is letting me turn out table top quality minis in a reasonable amount of time. I knocked out Duke Gerard and Zombie Werewolf this weekend, and have started work on Mason Thornwarden.
These minis are top notch, and will work great as NPC's in our D'n'D campaign, and are a real blast to paint.
Group shot - My painted Reaper stuff - mostly Bobby Jackson's work.
Work is slowing down so I should be able to concentrate more time to hobby, although Astro our pup is also getting bigger and is now able to get out and about so he will be getting some of my extra spare time too.
Astro at 13 weeks
That's it for now - Cheers all,
Pom
Having been over to the airshow in years. Im only an hr30 away, but guess i just lost the spirit of it.
ReplyDeleteYour right about the moves like leaves in the wind part-
few years back there was an incident where 2 F/A-18E hornets were doing a training mission, when 1 of the pilots noticed the other plane was radio dead and the cabin was all fogged up with the pilot slumped forward. The pilot had died due to depresurisation or something.
The other plan continued on to base and the other plane was written off.
When they eventually found the site where it came down, the plane was completely intact, no major damage sustained at all.
With the way the jets designed, once speed is lost it floats down like a leaf or feather.
Pretty cool huh.
As for hobby, i must say for a limited pallet the over all look of the miniatures your pumping out is rather satisfying.
Personally though id like to see that Zombie Werewolf with a larger pallet used, with more necrotic and less red flesh.
Good work on all accounts none the less :)
I was goin to start doing a mortifactors legion, just so i have a use for all the marines i got laying about, but after seeing all the Badab War stuff being done online, im torn on the subject now myself, to go that way or to go with my original plan...
Forget the models, that puppy is so CUTE!!
ReplyDeleteOh, nice looking minis as well mate! ;)
Cheers guys.
ReplyDelete@Meph - Now you point it out necrotic flesh would have made more sense on the Wolf. Will remember that for next time - I'm pretty sure there is another mini in that range which I might pick up.
I live close (too close to an airport) that has a good air show once or twice a year. So I get to watch them practice for a few days before in the skies over my neighborhood. It can get loud, but it's fun to watch. Just the other day I saw one of the V-22 Osprey flying coffin thingies go by.
ReplyDeleteNice minis, hard to believe that's a quick 4 color job. They look great.
I also have to say I'm quite fond of that awkward puppy stage when a dogs ears aren't sure what they should do. That pic demonstrates it well.
hey pom, good to see you back. Reaper do make some lovely miniatures. Many make great inquisitors/henchmen.
ReplyDeleteThey look great, keep it up.
I like that shield. Looks really neat:)
ReplyDeleteAirshows, only been to one proper but I was very impressed by the solo and team (4 airplanes) demonstrations by the Swedish airforce. Those JAS-39 Gripen can do some quite amazing maneuvers in the air. Blew everyone else away, which is why I'd love to see the F-22 Raptors in person. In the video-clips I've seen they were amazing.
Bet no Thunderbolt, Thunderhawk, nor Storm Raven can move like that :)
hahahaha Astro is looking great! :3
ReplyDeleteand Duke Gerarard looks nice too. Nice paintjob. Cool to see some other Reaper miniatures in the blogosphere ;D
Thanks guys - I really appreciate you all stopping by and commenting.
ReplyDeleteThe airshow was a real blast - they run every 2 years down here and my mate agrees we will try to make a go at attending each one.
Astro (the pup) is growing every day - its great watching him develop.
@Geek - his ears were both up properly the other day but have gone floppy again as he started teething.
Reaper minis are great - so much variety across both sci-fi and fantasy ranges. They have wicked customer service, really cheap proces and a decent paint range - I'm not paid for this endorsement by the way - they are genuinely one of the nicest companies to deal with.
@Flekkzo - The shield is y favourite part - I went quick and dirty onthe wood effect and it came out much better than I would have expected, better even than when I have tried to achieve that result before.
Thanks again guys,
Pom
seen the Nighthawk some time ago, the pilot said he was going to fill the bay with Bodingtons for the flight home.
