I decided after getting most of the basics down (metals/bone etc) that I would progress on a single mini at a time. I started on the Reaper Cannon as it was the closest to hand and gave now finished most of the armour. I am thinking a final edge highlight and leave it at that.
I have posed him next to Typhus who is a lot more 'stripey' in the paint style which I don't like as much so he will probably get a touch up at some point.
My current struggle is how to to paint the Reaper casing. Its currently blocked out black, but I don't want to leave it that way, or do more green on the model than what is necessary. Maybe a brown colour will work.
The Forge World bits are the best thing about these models with the texture on them making them really easy to layer and highlight. Quite enjoying this little side project but should really try to pull my finger out and get more done.
I went to Vets night again this week and took part in the first game of the narrative campaign which was an 8 way kill team challenge match played out on the Space Hulk board pieces. Each player had a certain challenge which was built around the fluff of the army chose or the make up of the army - mine was to kill x number of enemies with my Bolt Guns. I managed 2 kills with Bolt Guns and another 5 with various Plasma weapons or in combat but was utterly annihilated by the end of the game. 2 of the guys who were working as a team managed to complete their missions with the rest of us failing.
While in store I also picked up the first Badab book. Although they are expensive, Forge World have put out a quality product. There are also some boarding action rules in there which we will use in future campaign games to mix it up a bit.
That's about it for this update. In non-hobby news our puppy has settled in well. My missus thinks I am a big softy with him but she's just jealous that he has bonded to me better than her (or so I tell myself). We are starting him at puppy school in a week or so and then obedience classes. Its amazing watching him explore and learn, and we can definitely see the growth he has experienced in just the last week.
Anyway, that's all for now.
Cheers all,
Pom
I really like the look of the forge world bits and how you've painted them up. I'm so sorely tempted to buy some!
ReplyDeleteCheers mate.
ReplyDeleteThe thing about forge world stuff is that you can get a lot of it (particularly the stuff that has been out a while) for a good deal via eBay if your comfortable using it. Thats where these guys came from.
Probably half my FW stuff comes from FW, with the rest eBay. Either way, the miniatures are first rate and a good fun to paint.
Thanks for stopping by.
Nice work mate, very.....Nurgle!!
ReplyDeleteAs for eBay, well i have to agree, most of my stuff comes from there as well! Not only to get a cheap deal, but also to avoid Forgeworlds rediculous postage costs!!
Really like the lurid green of these, it brings out the details well.
ReplyDeleteMy own Death Guard were painted in a much more subdued scheme which whilst it works for my army does mean alot of the impact is lost from them
Cheers guys.
ReplyDelete@ Daniel - I do my WoC Nurgle Warriors in much the same colours. Its easier for me to highlight up to lighter colours than to stay darker and still get depth.
Nice DeathGuard, I'm not a nurgle fan, but I recognize awesome-ness when I see it.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree and disagree with you on the subject of Forge World quality (when it comes to books). I think what they put in them is pure gold, I just wish they'd let someone proof read them before printing. I found one page in Vraks pt2 with 4 typos on it and there were a couple of sentences so mangled that I had to use the surrounding paragraph to deduce what the sentence was supposed to be trying to convey. I'd be willing to take the proof reader job for store credit, but I don't think they'd go for it.
Good luck with the puppy classes. There are some good ones and some less good ones out there. I was actually a certified dog training and behavior specialist at one time.... I don't know if that stuff ever expires, I guess I may still be one!
I kinda like yellow tint on top of the green. Looks slimy and awesome. Shows how cool Chaos can be if you look at the minis instead of the rules :) Keep on painting!
ReplyDeleteYour getting some very well deserved praise here mate! You've done a lovely job as always.
ReplyDeleteHope work is going well
Thanks guys - I really appreciate you all stopping by and leaving feedback.
ReplyDelete@Geek - I agree that there are some obvious spelling/proof reading issues in the book - but as a product, the glossy paper, colour spreads, sturdiness etc are really nice examples of a company trying to put out a good product. I whole heartedl agree though - more than happy to act as proof reader for credit (ha).
@Flekkzo - I only have these guys for the minis as I only play Chaos in Fantasy. Across the whole range there are some great standout models - Kharn the Betrayer for example. If I manage to collect enough individual pieces I might end up with a kill team which would be cool.
@Smurf - Thanks mate. It is nice to have that praise to keep you motivated.
@Pom sometimes I think that picking up just special characters to paint could be a lot of fun without the strain of building a whole army:)
ReplyDeleteLike the nurgle scheme, pretty cool!
ReplyDeleteNice work! ;D
Cheers Nesbet
ReplyDeleteNice :) im getting all inspired to start painting again after a long break! Nurgle is one of my favourite schemes to paint
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah ebay rocks, defo worth a look if your need something
Cheers for stopping by Mr W. Good to see people return to the hobby.
ReplyDeleteThe first place i go to these days to see where prices are at is eBay - might not buy from there, but its a good indictaion of what you should be paying.
