Holidays...

Just a quick post to say I haven't done any practical hobby over the last week as I have been madly trying to tidy things off at work ready to close down for the year. I started 3 weeks holidays today.

I have re-read a few Black Library books, and generated my player sheet for Death Watch, but no painting has gotten done on anything (apart for priming my Nurgle Marine).

I also get in 2 Kill Zone games against my non-gamer mate Jay, beating his Space Wolf force with both an Imperial Guard force and an Ork force, although both games were really close. We played a home brewed capture the flag style game with a mash of different rules from 4th, 5th, Necro and Kill Zone. They were fun little games and Jay is hungry for more (and a win).

I figured I would get all the house stuff out of the way today and tomorrow to try to maximise the time I have for hobby and other pursuits over my break.

Its just come in overcast outside so I guess I am finished in the garden for the day, plus my back is now telling me its had enough. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the last odd jobs done and then its all hobby (and Christmas).

Cheers all,

Pom

  1. You did all that before you even started your holiday? Wow! That's impressive. I'm wondering what you could get done in a whole three weeks.

  2. Happy Holidays Pom! Dead jeolous. I dont know what it's like over in the US but in the UK at the moment, most people have to work 6 days a week all the way up to christmas eve and work boxing day just to eat!

    I am one of them!

  3. Cheers guys.

@ Porky - it might sound like a lot but it doesn't feel it. I know their only little bits of plastic but they have the funniest looks on their faces everytime I go into my painting space and I don't pick up a brush (ha).

@ Smurf - I'm actually in Australia. Our news service says we went through the GFC better than most countries due to our mineral exports to China, and it doesn't feel like a lot changed over here. My missus and one of my brothers are in retail and I know they have been working stupid hours recently trying to claw back some of their lost store earnings, it doesn't help being the xmas period either so its already crazy.

I'm lucky enough to work in what my other tradesmen brothers like to call a cushy government job. The way our leave system works, I was required to take my leave now or lose it entirely (although they didn't have to push me too hard).

Best wishes to you guys and your families over xmas and newyear.

  4. My apologies, I didn't realise you were over in Australia!

I would love to live there, I'm a specialist in bird behaviour and Australia is just the gold standard for that kind of work!

A friend of mine has just moved over to study a PhD. I'm jealous to say the least.

  5. No apologies necessary mate - reading back my first line response was a bit terse.

Australia is a lovely place to live, although I do miss England (I'm and expatriate), and am not a fan of the 35 - 40+ degree days for weeks on end, a couple of days here and there are alright mind.

The bird life over here is amazing. My missus has taken me around Queensland through the forests, and we've also been through the Victorian and New South Wales hinterland and the flora and fauna is really diverse. You can be walking through deep bush one minute and trek down into a valley and then your in a steeming rainforest environment.

I think I get more enjoyment from it than she does as she is used to these types of birds and locations, while I will still stop and watch if I see a lorikeet or a parrot.
